Care

Sterling Silver Jewellery Care

All sterling silver will tarnish over time, but it will happen much faster when it comes into contact with agents such as perfume, salty air, sulphur, skin creams, hairspray, chlorine and acidic skin PH. The amount of tarnishing (oxidation) that occurs is dependent on the skin and care habits of the wearer.

To keep your jewellery sparkling, you can give it a scrub with an old toothbrush and some toothpaste. This will remove any gunk built up on it. Make sure to give it a good rinse with warm water.

With online purchases we provide a polishing cloth that can be used at anytime to clean off tarnish build up. Simply vigorously rub your jewellery against the cloth until it shines once again. We also have polishing cloths available for purchase in our shop.

To stop tarnishing while not wearing, we recommend storing in a plastic bag away from moist conditions like bathrooms.

Rose | Gold Fill Jewellery Care

Rose gold and gold fill jewellery will also tarnish over time, this is normal. Solder joints are likely to tarnish faster than the rest of the piece. This is not a defect, simply a reflection of the handmade quality of our jewellery.

With online purchases, we provide a polishing cloth that can be used at anytime to clean off tarnish build up. Simply vigorously rub your jewellery against the cloth until it shines once again. Do not use anything abrasive on your gold or rose gold jewellery as it will take off the finish faster. We also have polishing cloths available for purchase in our shop.

Cleaning Matte Jewellery

Most of our jewellery has a matte finish. This is a durable finish and shows less wear, tear and scratches. If your jewellery has become tarnished and you would like to restore it to its previous matte surface, follow these directions:

1. Purchase a medium-abrasive Scotch-Brite pad from your local grocery store or Home Depot.

2. Rub your charm in a circular motion with even pressure on the pad. This should brighten the high spots while leaving the black relief texture.

3. Wash your piece in warm water with mild dish soap and an old toothbrush.

4. Dry thoroughly.

Your piece should now be returned to its original state!

To avoid tarnish in the future, place your jewellery pieces in airtight plastic bags or in one of our anti-tarnish travel bags.

Cleaning High Polish Jewellery

Some of our jewellery has a high-polish finish. This finish will need a little upkeep to remain shining brightly. If your jewellery has become tarnished and you would like to restore it to its previous polished finish follow these directions:

1. Purchase a silver jewellery polishing cloth or use the one included with your online purchase. We also have polishing cloths available for purchase in our shop.

2. Rub your charm in a circular motion with even pressure on the polishing cloth. This should brighten the high spots while leaving the black relief texture.

Jewellery Storage

We recommend that you store your jewellery in a dry place in an airtight bag or in an anti-tarnish bag. We do not suggest keeping your jewellery in moist environments, such as bathrooms.

About Sterling Silver

All of our silver jewellery is solid .925 sterling silver with the exception of our rhodium chains. Sterling silver consists of 92.5% silver, and the remaining part consists of an alloy - mostly copper. This is the reason sterling silver is popularly referred to as .925 sterling silver or just 925 silver.

The reason silver needs to be combined with other metals is that it is very difficult to make great designs with just pure silver, which is very soft and malleable. A bit of hardness has to be introduced, by adding other metals such as copper. That is why we have chosen .925 sterling silver to create our designs.

Sterling silver is always nickel free. Our jewellery will tarnish over time. This is not a bad thing, this just means that you have purchased a high-quality metal that needs a little extra care.

About Gold Fill

All of our coloured metal is 14K gold or rose gold fill. Fill is, effectively, a thick sheet of gold or rose gold. The gold content is 5% or 1/20 of the total weight. We use fill to create the highest quality jewellery at an affordable price. Gold fill has the strength of sterling but the beautiful colour of gold or rose gold.

With reasonable care, it will not wear off, peel or flake and should last as long as solid 14K gold or rose gold jewellery. It is safe for most people with sensitive skin, however some exceptions apply.

About Rhodium Plating

Our Mountain Necklace collection uses rhodium plated sterling silver chain. Rhodium is its own base metal and is electroplated over top of sterling silver. We have chosen to use this kind of chain because the two amazing attributes of rhodium is that it does not tarnish and looks strikingly similar to white gold.

Some customers may be sensitive to rhodium, solid sterling silver chains can be exchanged. Please make a note on your order if you require this option.

Silk Wrap Care

If you would like to continually wear your new silk wrap, you can tie it on with a double knot. If it gets dirty, just rub it clean with a gentle body wash. Make sure to be careful around chemicals, and make sure to stay away from bleach.
